Mozart was employed at the Salzburg court for quite some time, but yearned for higher pay and the opportunity to write operas. Our Austria feature would not be complete without the national dish! Wiener Schnitzel is a delicious pan fried cutlet and first appeared in Vienna as early as 1857. The flaky, buttery crust has a wonderful juxtaposition to the succulent tender meat inside. The beauty of Stephansdom is unreal. This Roman Catholic Cathedral has been in Vienna since 1160. Numerous events associated with music have happened within its halls including Joseph Haydn’s wedding, Mozarts wedding and funeral, and Vivaldi’s funeral.
